during of service in first world war m28 attached aegean squadron , tasked coastal bombardment of turkish positions. on 21 october 1915 bombarded bulgarian port of dedeagatch. on 20 january 1918, had been stationed @ kusu bay on island of imbros along hms raglan, hms lizard, , hms tigress when attacked 2 turkish vessels. former sms goeben , sms breslau managed trap m28 , raglan in bay , engage them in became known battle of imbros. result of battle m28 sunk , suffered 11 of crew killed while rest rescued allied vessels.
