mayor prentiss/president david prentiss

mayor prentiss mastermind behind take over, , later becomes self-proclaimed president of new world. 1 forced prentisstown war, , 1 plotted start of next spackle war. extremely charismatic , manipulative, choosing play mind games instead of resorting brute force. although annoyance, learns control noise, , can use weapon. despite cruelties, running theme throughout trilogy whether or not can redeemed.


in second book, creates ask, organization dedicated opposing answer , destroying unrest within population of haven. captures todd , forces him work him. mayor prentiss dislikes son davy, , comments on how todd make better son. @ end of second book, prentiss kills davy. later revealed have sent davy war empty rifle. todd , viola have mayor @ mercy brief period of time, , before end life, spackle launch surprise retaliation. released can lead army defend humans incoming war.


in third book, mayor prentiss continues try recruit todd, instead changed him. becomes more moral, cannot ignore hollow emptiness feels towards in world. revealed had surpassed point in knowledge of noise has left silenced , hateful of others’ noise. treats todd if own son, when ben arrives, realizes todd choose more ben instead of him. in monsters of men, todd tries kill him using noise force him walk ocean, enormous man-eating sea creatures dwell. however, mayor declares has changed due todd s goodness, , not want todd become him killing him. declaring world changed them, , doesn t want witness it, walks ocean.


davy prentiss, jr.

son of mayor prentiss. in old prentisstown, davy local sheriff. in book 1 told bring todd , viola mayor, shoots viola instead. later, in second book, ordered work todd during ask , answer, carrying out tasks while seeking father’s approval. while , todd resent each other, develop form of friendship during ask , answer. when viola being tortured, saves todd cannot. murdered end of ask , answer own father when starts turn out nice , human . whilst dying, reveals todd through noise killed ben, regretted later, , begs todd forgiveness die.


aaron

the seemingly insane priest of prentisstown. appears during first book trying provoke fight todd, ends todd injuring him without killing him. face disfigured in beginning of book after being attacked crocodiles , later in book, aaron s nose bitten off manchee, after aaron attempted attack todd , viola. @ end of book, s revealed selected sacrifice todd s coming of age requires him kill in order become man, , aaron has been trying provoke todd kill him aiding of process turn him saint. plan fails, when @ end of first book, viola deliberately kills him in todd s place prevent todd becoming murderer mayor prentiss wants.


ivan farrow

a former civilian of farbranch, ivan joined mayor s army when town destroyed. later joins answer after mayor demotes him private , continuously treats him dirt. ambitious man goes wherever power , said many characters of novels.
