since 1999 town s rossmore leisure centre has hosted gmpd poole gymnastics competition every october holiday inn express hosting of competitors disco on saturday evening has since been scrapped, hundreds of competitors across country compete each year, competition celebrated 18th anniversary in 2017.

poole harbour 1 of largest centres sailing in uk yacht clubs including lilliput sailing club, parkstone yacht club , poole yacht club. parkstone yacht club hosted ok dinghy world championships in 2004, j/24 national championships in 2006 , j/24 european championships in 2007, , organisers of youth week , poole week – 2 of largest annual dinghy regattas of type in country.

poole s oldest football team poole town f.c., semi-professional team play in national league south – sixth tier of english football league system. established in 1880, team has had erratic success @ level; have never risen above non-league levels once reached third round of fa cup. played @ poole stadium until 1994 , have since settled @ tatnam farm, sharing school playing field oakdale junior school. poole s other football teams hamworthy united, formed in 1970 , play in wessex premier league, , amateur team poole borough f.c. play in dorset premier league. poole 1 of largest towns in england without professional football team.


speedway

poole s motorcycle speedway team, poole pirates, established , began racing @ poole stadium in 1948 in national league division three. team races in top tier of league racing (the elite league) won in 2008, 2011, 2013, , 2014. poole stadium venue greyhound racing; race nights occur 3 days week throughout year.


scouting

poole has 3 of oldest scout association groups in world. 1st parkstone air scout group holds records dating february 1908 , 1st hamworthy scout group has records dating october 1908; both groups formed out of original boys brigade units had members take part in original scout camp in 1907. broadstone group has records dating december 1908 , home first king s/queen s scout.


nature parks

working dorset wildlife trust, poole council has opened 2 nature parks:



holes bay nature park, opened in 2015, includes upton country park. bay important feeding , roosting site wetland birds.
corfe barrows nature park, opened in 2016, group of 8 natural sites, including happy bottom nature reserve, being jointly managed wildlife , people in north of borough.

walking

poole tourism has developed , signed number of trails , circular walks, collectively called poole harbour trails.


cycling

poole has cycle network of on 50 miles , number of scenic , long-distance routes including castleman trailway, poole heritage cycle route , bourne valley greenway.
