on december 4, 2011, final bowl championship series standings unveiled rematch between no. 1 lsu , no. 2 alabama in bcs national championship game. in game, crimson tide defeated tigers 21–0 clinch second bcs championship in 3 years. first points of game set after marquis maze returned brad wing punt 49-yards lsu 26-yard line in first quarter. 5 plays later, jeremy shelley connected on 23-yard field goal give alabama 3–0 lead. after first attempt blocked tigers michael brockers, shelley connected on second-quarter field goals of 34 , 41 yards give crimson tide 9–0 halftime lead.


shelley extended crimson tide lead 12–0 after converted 35-yard field goal on alabama s first possession of second half. missed 41-yard field goal attempt wide right before connected on 44-yard attempt give crimson tide 15–0 lead @ end of third quarter. midway through fourth quarter, lsu offense crossed 50-yard line first time of game pushed 50 after dont hightower sacked jordan jefferson on fourth down play give possession alabama. on possession, crimson tide scored touchdown of game on 34-yard trent richardson run make final score 21–0.


in game, alabama outgained lsu in total offense 384 92 yards, , shutout first ever completed in bcs game since advent of bcs in 1998. jeremy shelley established all-time bowl record 7 field goal attempts , tied all-time bowl record 5 made. performances, courtney upshaw named defensive player of game , aj mccarron named offensive player of game.



mccarron became first sophomore quarterback lead team bcs national title.
