1996–2014: phantom

until 2003, phantom operated pirate station, staying on air majority of time, apart outages caused frequency collisions newly licensed stations, fear of raids comreg, , once, theft of transmission equipment 3 rock mountain. since 2003, have operated internet radio station, , under 2 temporary radio contracts (2003 , 2004) broadcasting commission of ireland.
funding phantom during pirate era came sponsorship , advertising local bands , promoters , contributions station staff.
a number of times during period, station went off air licence applications. after 2 successful temporary licenses, phantom applied alternative rock license offered bci dublin in july 2004. won licence alternative rock station dublin in november 2004, beating zed fm consortium, xfm , 2 other applicants.
phantom s expected launch delayed due legal challenges against bci regarding license scrollside ltd./zed fm. unsuccessful challenge high court followed appeal supreme court rejected on 6 april 2006. phantom returned airwaves on 31 october 2006, broadcasting on 105.2 fm.
phantom 105.2 won award best music driven local station @ 2007 ppi awards.
phantom 105.2 s claire beck , dee reddy interviewing foals @ 2013 longitude festival in dublin.
in 2010, communicorp took 30% stake , station relocated marconi house in january 2011 shares facilities today fm , newstalk. number of redundancies resulted move , cost cutting including redundancies of marketing manager brian daly , traffic manager laura lee conboy (she continued presenter role) along resignation of chief executive ger roe , dismissal of general manager simon maher. ricky geraghty has replaced ger roe ceo , keith walsh has replaced fiona scally programme director.
in august 2012 announced number of weekend presenters leaving station in bid cut costs. include pearl, dee reddy, shane galvin, james byrne , derek byrne. co-host of pure morning, michelle doherty left in mid-september pursue acting career. subsequently, dee reddy , derek byrne reinstated.
keith walsh left phantom in december 2013 2fm. txfm operated holders of alternative rock franchise dublin city , county.
2014: job cuts , restructuring plans
on 14 february 2014, board of directors of dublin rock radio ltd, trading phantom 105.2 announced twenty staff made redundant. in statement issued press, managers of station said broadcasting authority of ireland had granted permission restructure business in order ensure long-term viability .
in february 2014, announced agreement had been reached broadcasting authority of ireland restructure station resulting in loss of full , part-time staff exception of 3 day time presenters. station rebranded txfm closer operational links today fm, owned communicorp , broadcast same building.
on 16 march 2014 station ceased broadcasting phantom 105.2. last live show power house presented john caddell. back music broadcast station being renamed 105.2 no reference phantom. following presentation lost jobs alongside backroom , support staff: richie ryan, richie mccormack, ray mcgowan, laura lee conboy, charlotte flood, jack hyland, sinead ni churnain , st. ledger. charlotte flood broadcasting assistant on today fm. reinstated on txfm in 2015.
2014–2016: txfm
it subsequently confirmed txfm relaunch on 31 march 2014, mix of existing , new presenters. new lineup see presented programmes 7am midnight on weekdays, including nightly two-hour specialist shows 10pm; weekends see mix of presenter-led , specialist shows, including saturday night indie anthems marathon.
on 30 march 2016 broadcasting authority of ireland announced no applications had been received license held dublin rock radio limited, broadcasting txfm.
some of station s specialist content such set-list, metal march, txfm evenings, pick-up, souled out, transmission, nialler 9, friday nights, listening post , side axed station @ end of june 2016, while songs in key of life nadine o regan made transition slot on txfm sister station today fm national radio station. july 2016, stations schedule reduced few hours of live content each day majority of schedule made of automated songs.
from july 4, 2016 new schedule consisted of weekdays: 07:00–11:00 txfm breakfast cathal funge, 11:00–15:00 txfm daytime claire beck, 15:00 – 19:00 tx drive joe donnelly, 19:00 – 07:00 overnight music, weekends: 10:00 – 12:00 tx hits paul donegan (saturday), 12:00 – 14:00 esther moore donohue 14:00 – 18:00 park life paul & johnny, 18:00 – 09:00 overnight music, 09:00–12:00 sunday service dee reddy (sunday), 12:00–14:00 tx hits paul donegan, 14:00 – 18:00 park life paul & johnny, 18:00 – 21:00 revolver john caddell, 21:00 – 07:00 overnight music. on weekdays nights 19:00 until 22:00 txfm may replay countdown specials , music documentaries broadcast on station on previous 2 years, otherwise overnight music fill schedule.
closure
the station ceased broadcasting on wednesday october 26, 2016 @ 20:12pm full 14 minutes 57 seconds of pulp s day after revolution final song. jnlr radio figures released week showed in final 3 months on air, station s listenership had increased 16,000 (q2 2016) 19,000 (q3 2016).
