the town named after clodoald, grandson of clovis, supposed have sought refuge in hamlet on seine near paris, named novigentum, many other newly founded mercantile settlements outside traditional towns. canonized after death, village tomb located took name of sanctus clodoaldus.


a park contains ruins of château de saint-cloud, built in 1572 , destroyed fire in 1870, during franco-prussian war. château residence of several french rulers , served main country residence of cadet orléans line prior french revolution. palace site of coup d état led napoleon bonaparte overthrew french directory in 1799.


the town famous saint-cloud porcelain produced there 1693 1766.


the headquarters of international criminal police organization (interpol) had been located @ 22 rue armengaud 1966 until 1989, when moved lyon.
