a shell fired serb positions in hill exploded in town centre on 11 august 1992, next building converted shelter bosniak women , children. killed 5 people, including 3 children, , wounded 24. 8 people needed amputations. director of town s hospital said of casualties big operations . inhabitants of bihać, armed little except old rifles, had no means of retaliating. instead, on every day since 12 june, when army of republika srpska first began bombard bihać, people did best carry away wounded , clear wreckage. secretary said took hours wash away blood . every day, serbs fired more shells, in morning, in afternoon, , @ night. on 1 day in august, shelling lasted 6.40 pm until after midnight.


the region had bosniak population and, since outbreak of armed conflict, had received 35,000 displaced persons, of them coming serb controlled areas around banja luka , sanski in summer of 1992. in return, of serbs, 12,000 before war, left bihać banja luka @ same time.
