radio waves type of electromagnetic radiation wavelengths in electromagnetic spectrum longer infrared light. other electromagnetic waves, travel @ speed of light. naturally occurring radio waves made lightning, or astronomical objects. artificially generated radio waves used fixed , mobile radio communication, broadcasting, radar , other navigation systems, satellite communication, computer networks , innumerable other applications. different frequencies of radio waves have different propagation characteristics in earth s atmosphere; long waves may cover part of earth consistently, shorter waves can reflect off ionosphere , travel around world, , shorter wavelengths bend or reflect little , travel on line of sight.
