on january 16, 2012, rockies traded smith oakland athletics guillermo moscoso , josh outman. due severe splits between facing right handed , left handed pitching, smith platooned in 2 seasons in oakland. hit .246 22 home runs s between 2012 , 2013.


san diego padres

on december 3, 2013, smith traded san diego padres pitcher luke gregerson. on march 30, 2014, smith hit home run against los angeles dodgers pitcher brian wilson in first at-bat padre. on july 2, 2014, signed two-year, $13 million extension. smith finished season batting .266 12 homers , 48 rbis. led padres in batting average (.266), obp (.367) , hits (118), doubles, triples , walks. during 2014–15 offseason, padres traded trio of outfielders in matt kemp, wil myers, , justin upton, leaving smith open traded.


seattle mariners

on december 30, 2014, padres traded smith seattle mariners in exchange pitcher brandon maurer. in first full season in seattle, smith hit .248 12 home runs while platooning majority of season franklin gutierrez.


baltimore orioles

on january 6, 2017, mariners traded smith baltimore orioles in exchange pitcher yovani gallardo. on april 7, smith hit first home run of season against yankees in eighth inning secure 5-4 win orioles. on april 26, smith collected first walk-off of season, bases loaded walk against rays win in 11th inning 5-4. smith appeared in 13 games in month of april orioles, slashing .238/.347/.476. on may 4, in 8-3 win against red sox, smith went 4-4 walk. on may 9, hit game-tying home run late in game against nationals , orioles go on win 5-4.
