there 90 individual languages spoken in ethiopia. 1994 ethiopian census indicates 77 tongues spoken locally. of these languages belong afroasiatic family (cushitic , semitic). omotic languages spoken, though classification uncertain. additionally, nilo-saharan languages spoken nation s nilotic ethnic minorities.


the spoken languages oromo (34.4%), amharic (27%), somali (6.2%), , tigrinya (6.1%).


amharic official national language of ethiopia. language of primary school instruction, has been replaced in many areas local languages such oromo , tigrinya. english spoken foreign language, , officially taught in secondary schools.
