early life

jim goad born june 12, 1961, in ridley park, pennsylvania. growing in clifton heights, outside philadelphia, goad described himself teenager loner, misanthropic , weirdo. attended catholic school, , experienced violent treatment nuns , father, learning fight back. teenager wanted move new york city study acting , accepted study @ new york university under stella adler.


1980s–90s

goad graduated in 1986 b.a. in journalism temple university while living in new jersey. in 1980s goad met debbie rosalie @ johnny thunders concert in new york city. debbie 8 years older goad, jewish , lived in coney island. couple lived in new york , debbie worked @ bureau of alcohol, tobacco , firearms , goad @ lower east side print shop. couple left new york after goad beat brighton beach landlord calling debbie stupid . landlord filed, , dropped, assault charges, goads not return new york, settling in los angeles. couple married in las vegas in 1987. upon arriving in los angeles, goad started working @ los angeles reader, covering local news, , freelancing playboy , details magazine. goad unhappy content covering, , wishing cover more fringe subjects couple began publishing own work.


around 1994 couple moved portland, oregon , goad devoted time writing. debbie diagnosed ovarian cancer while goad dating answer me! groupie anne skye ryan. goad described ryan sweet dracula girl , being ...fifteen years younger me , thousand times more fucked-up.





goad , ryan have physically abusive relationship, beating 1 up. fought in public , arrested , released. in november 1997, debbie filed restraining order against goad, claiming beating on daily basis, withdrawing it, stating bullied filing , mad @ goad having affair ryan. ryan threatened kill goad, , took out restraining order against her. goad , debbie divorce in 1997. in may 1998 2 had confrontation fight in goad s car outside of portland. goad left ryan side of road, fled washington, , charged assault , kidnapping, totaling 25 years in prison. while goad served 7 1/2 months of pretrial prison time, ryan befriended dying debbie. 2 heavily publicized relationships goad, cop plea. ryan go on serve couple of months in prison on own unrelated assault charges. when asked if had remorse or guilt beating ryan, goad said, absolutely not. enjoyed it. starting in may 1998 go on spend year in minimum security prison, after serving in county jail , moving maximum security prison. goad served 2 1/5 years, being released in 2002.


while goad in prison, author jim hogshire started free jim goad website, claiming goad innocent , should released prison. goad disagreed concept of website, admitting not innocent regarding actions.


2000s

upon release prison in 2002, goad returned portland , on parole time. wrote exotic, free guide sex industry of northwestern united states , djing hard country big bass @ local bar. in 2008 goad became father. maintains website, jimgoad.net, , writes taki s magazine. goad resides in stone mountain, georgia.
