history
2012–2013: formation

lead singer amelia meath, @ time involved trio, mountain man, created vocals song called play right . later met electronic music producer nick sanborn in milwaukee @ cactus club, performing @ time solo made of oak, , asked him make rendering of single, play right, in own way. 2012 2013, band formed. meath had returned year-and-a-half tour feist , looking affordable place live, landing in durham nick , began making album, of songs being recorded in nick sanborn s apartment bedroom. sanborn expressed music sync[ed] seamlessly meath s melodies, respective words , beats bec[ame] string of ready-to-play singles.


2014–2015: sylvan esso

sylvan esso group s eponymous debut studio album, released may 12, 2014 (2014-05-12) via partisan records. album reached no. 39 on billboard 200 , no. 7 on independent albums chart, , of november 2014 has sold 39,000 copies. single hey mami named paste magazine s no. 1 song of 2014. made network television debut on tonight show starring jimmy fallon on july 9, 2014, performing single coffee . received considerable airplay in us, increasing profile of band nationally. in august 2015, band released single h.s.k.t. , included remix hercules , love affair.


the band s first tour, sylvan esso spring 2015 tour began on december 30, 2014, in phillip island, australia circuit. continued tour in australia until january 3, 2015, show in northcote, australia. tour ended april 25, 2015, in vancouver. went europe until march 2, traveling lille munich , amsterdam. on march 21, 2015, band brought tour north america, playing washington, d.c. in april 2015, sylvan esso played both weekends of coachella. other 2015 dates saw band perform @ firefly music festival 2015, in dover, de, eaux claires music & arts festival in eau claire, wisconsin on july 18 , on july 25 @ wayhome festival in oro medonte, canada. sylvan esso played on friday, july 31, 2015 @ lollapalooza in chicago, illinois. group performed both weekends of 2015 austin city limits music festival in austin, texas.


in august 2015, band released jamie s song , specially recorded npr s radiolab, tribute story bipolar disorder.


2016–present: now

in september 2016 band released single radio back kick jump twist . video latter appeared in january 2017. in late february group released single “die young” along music video , announcement regarding new album, titled now.


in march 2017, duo performed @ south southwest, npr music s showcase. later march, band performed on npr s world cafe perform songs upcoming album.


on april 28, 2017, band released sophomore studio album on loma vista recordings. album received positive reviews. in may 2017, performed @ boston calling music festival. duo began 2017 tour on may 13, 2017. tour end in november 2017.


on november 28, 2017 album received grammy nomination in category best dance/electronic album.


they scheduled perform @ eaux claires in eau claire, wisconsin in june 2017, melt! festival in ferropolis, germany , citadel festival in london, united kingdom in july 2017. performed @ latitude festival in suffolk, england, in july 2017.
