the police institution dates ancient times history , language of country.


during rana regime (1864-1951 ad)

during rana regime, little done institutionalize police organisation, establishing milisiya, thana police chakki, office of police director general etc. gradually shaped nepal police modern nepal police .


during period 1951 - 1990

nepal saw dawn of democracy after fall of rana regime. police headquarters established in 1952 in kathmandu. mr. toran shamsher j.b.rana appointed first inspector general of police. police act, 2012 bs (1955 ad) came effect. police regulation, 2015 bs (1959 ad) came effect.


the parliamentary government under multi-party system adopted years followed panchayat system since 1960. establishment of central police training centre in 1963 a.d.


from 1990 until today

the peoples democratic movement of 1990 reinstated multi party democratic system. new constitution of kingdom promulgated on november 9, 1991. police reform commission constituted in year 1992 , modernization of police organisation started tune aspirations of people , norms of multi-party system. first contingent of police personnel deployed in un mission in 1991. more 2000 police personnel have left feet serving international community in blue helmet. nepal police main , principal law enforcement agency of nepal.


nepal police has total 67,416 police personnel , has 2,344 permanent , 507 temporary police offices , units spread on country.
