the city slopes highest point in northeast lowest point in southwest towards missouri river. prominent tributaries of river perche creek, hinkson creek, , flat branch creek. along these , other creeks in area can found large valleys, cliffs, , cave systems such in rock bridge state park south of city. these creeks largely responsible numerous stream valleys giving columbia hilly terrain similar ozarks while having prairie flatland typical of northern missouri. columbia operates several greenbelts trails , parks throughout town.
