the temple may have been consecrated vaishnava temple (to god vishnu), later taken on jains may have removed images temple , become shaiva temple after coming under procession of worshippers of god shiva. conclusion drawn because image of sun god surya exists below little kirtimukhas (gargoyle faces) on eastern wall (back wall) of temple, though, image of shiva, sculpted out of independent slab of stone , mounted in front of shikhara (superstructure) above mantapa roof, suggest otherwise. overall, temple plan bears hallmarks of standard 11th century chalukyan construction dravida architectural articulation innovative 12th century elements such aedicules, miniature decorative towers on pilasters, added.
