the deep south animal clinic.


deep south animal clinic

the deep south animal clinic opened on august 15, 1973 in front of around 150 people.  36 x 60 clinic cost $65,000 build , designed out-patient animal clinic, featuring multiple facilities.  these facilities include isolation area, operating areas small & large animals, hydraulic operating table large animals, kennel, laboratory, post-mortem room, office, , reception area.


the ogema district veterinary board opened clinic grant of $25,000 provincial government of saskatchewan, , $11,000 grant federal government of canada, under local initiatives program, while board paid remainder.  district farmer, wilfred edworthy, officially unlocked clinic @ opening ceremony.  before animal clinic opened, operations on livestock took place in edworthy’s barn.


today, deep south animal clinic provides service ogema , surrounding areas, including weyburn, regina, moose jaw, , assiniboia. clinic open year-round 24-hour emergency services.

the ogema school ranges kindergarten grade twelve, , located on mehnke street.  school offers variety of courses, giving students option pursue further studies in post-secondary institutions.


in august 1991, there 186 students enrolled in school, while current enrollment 112 students.  school has active sports program, , in 1988, improved track & field facilities.  school hosts south east cornerstone public school division annual track meet.


the ogema hospital

in 1949, building committee began $20,000 donation, , desire permission build 15-bed hospital.  people of ogema wanted hospital many reasons. people wanted own way care ill, because did not want rely on city hospitals or 1 nearby in bengough, due roads not being safe travel, , because of ill not able travel hospitals.


 in 1959, after 10 years, many hours of fundraising, construction, , delays, hospital still had not opened doors.  although building not quite complete, health minister, j. walter erb, deemed building out of date, , not fit hospital.


eventually project came end, , today, ogema still not have hospital within town.

the royal bank

in 1989 royal bank in ogema renovated, included expanding building 20’ x 40’ addition, , constructing wheelchair ramp.  during these renovations, bank computerized , modernized.


 in 1990 royal bank celebrated 80th anniversary in ogema.  bank active in community events, sponsoring various awards, , participating in annual fair.



the radius credit union.

in 1984 radius credit union in ogema decided computerize.  computerization came new products including master card product lines , automated tellers.  @ same time registered retirement savings plans, registered retirement income funds, interest bearing chequing, youth accounts, , insurance services emerging.



the ogema post office.


in 1987, became clear credit union either have renovate existing building, or move new one.  after looking @ decisions of other credit unions similar problems, decided renovate, , in 1988, board of directors sent out letters local tradesmen renovation plan.  in fall of 1988, newly renovated credit union had grand opening.


in 1990, credit union celebrated 40th anniversary in ogema.
