activities

rock island high school participates in illinois high school association , member of western big 6 conference. rock island high school seeks provide array of activities engage each student in finding true passion.


sports

the rock island swim team won first sectional championship in more 20 years march. rocks won ihsa 3a boys basketball championship on march 19, 2011. defeated centralia orphans score of 50-40 in double overtime. rock island girls track team grooms multiple state qualifiers , has won numerous contests.


the rocks have won ihsa speech sectional 11 years in row, has qualified them illinois state championship in speech, contest has no class divisions. speech team has been recognized 1 of key players in state tournament more 20 years.


music

the band named illinois all-state honor band in 2013 illinois music education association. under direction of peter carlin, pride of rock island marching band has ranked among best in state , represented premier marching band of quad cities. program consistently produces more ilmea all-state musicians other in immediate region.


of 3 choirs, chamber singers recognized throughout quad cities christmas tour. further, chamber singers requested @ many charitable events. under direction of scott voigt, program produces high numbers of ilmea district 2 choir members, all-state singers.

rock island high school has on-campus stadium, rock island public schools stadium, seating capacity of 16,000. within stadium, almquist field surfaced astroturf artificial turf.

the community has 1930s art deco auditorium. lower seating capacity 1000 persons. upper capacity 500 persons. proscenium measures 50 feet.
