asfar, email list organization, founded in 1996 matt walcoff , matt herman, 2 individuals felt age restrictions in u.s. had gone far. small project grew called legitimate organization. in 1999, asfar incorporated in missouri.


within year of founding, asfar developed internal conflicts split organization. disputes on internal affairs , on declaration of principles lead creation of 2 factions. 1 group, included majority of membership @ time, called detailed , radical declaration of principles , high degree of membership involvement in formation of policy. faction took name of group literally , insisted organization oppose age restrictions matter of principle.


the other faction, led herman , walcoff, called more traditional organization, led board of directors , smaller, more pragmatic set of policy positions. latter group leave form more visible , active national youth rights association (nyra).
