on march 13, 2010, boom! studios announced releasing four-issue darkwing duck miniseries, titled duck knight returns , starting in june of year. series written aaron sparrow (uncredited), ian brill , drawn james silvani, , set 1 year after end of show. boom! later announced due positive fan reaction, comic series extended indefinitely ongoing title. first trade paperback collection of initial 4 issues of comic released in fall of 2010


unlike original show, comic strengthened darkwing duck s ties parent show ducktales , began use number of carl barks characters magica de spell (allied negaduck in second story) , cameoing scrooge mcduck , gyro gearloose. 4-part crossover story disney s ducktales, titled dangerous currency , released parts 1 , 3 ducktales #5 , #6, , parts 2 , 4 darkwing duck #17 , #18. comic made lot of homages other disney shows: magica s powered form in #7 has emblems reference film villains hades , jafar, holds sign saying bring bonkers in background of #6, , #3 shows launchpad tried job gadget hackwrench of rescue rangers chip n dale rescue rangers.

on january 20, 2016, reported series returning comic book format. writers aaron sparrow , artist james silvani, both of whom worked on previous darkwing duck comic book published boom! returning. additionally andrew dalhouse, deron bennett , jesse post assume roles on creative team, r. janice orlando, worked on definitively dangerous edition, returning assistant editor. darkwing duck wearing purple necktie instead of usual turtleneck.


the first issue debuted on april 27, 2016. titled orange new purple .

on january 18, 2016, joe books twitter feed reported darkwing duck returning monthly comics beginning in april 2016 sparrow , silvani @ helm.


according silvani s twitter account, dangerous currency has been declared non-canon disney, , not referenced within new series.
