the cab, type of fly, sat 2 passengers (three if squeezed in) , driver sat on sprung seat behind vehicle. passengers give instructions driver through trap door near rear of roof. pay driver through hatch , operate lever release doors alight. in cabs, driver operate device balanced cab , reduced strain on horse. passengers protected elements cab, , folding wooden doors enclosed feet , legs, protecting clothes splashing mud. later versions had up-and-over glass window above doors complete enclosure of passengers. additionally, curved fender mounted forward of doors protected passengers stones thrown flying hooves of horse.
