on 25 february 2014, band unveiled midnight , track yet-to-be released album. in march 2014, announced band s sixth album, ghost stories, released 19 may 2014. ghost stories spiritually driven album revolves around 2 major themes mentioned chris martin. album explores idea of past actions, , effects can have on future , 1 s capacity unconditional love. band took different approach sixth studio album in contrast previous studio albums, martin inviting band contribute original songwriting material album, opposed building songs off ideas had done during previous recording sessions.


from april july, coldplay embarked on six-date ghost stories tour in support of album, playing intimate shows in 6 cities: beacon theatre in new york city on 5 may, royce hall in los angeles on 19 may, casino de paris in paris on 28 may, tokyo dome city hall in tokyo on 12 june, enmore theatre in sydney on 19 june, , closed tour @ royal albert hall in london on 2 july 2014. album made available pre-order on itunes, alongside new single titled magic . 2 more singles album, sky full of stars , true love , have since been released. ghost stories received mixed favourable reviews. album topped charts in uk, us, , major markets. received grammy award nomination best pop vocal album , sky full of stars nominated best pop duo/group performance. in december 2014, spotify named coldplay most-streamed band in world 2014, , third most-streamed artist behind ed sheeran , eminem.
