north corktown came existence after construction of i-75. before period north corktown part of corktown neighborhood. name corktown comes neighborhoods residents. in 1830s irish immigrants county cork began living in area today corktown , north corktown. residents built many queen anne style homes row houses on relatively narrow lots. in 1960s neighborhood began steadily decline, largely due freeway construction , urban renewal projects.
