16 october – police find girl s body on saddleworth moor near oldham in lancashire. body identified of lesley ann downey, disappeared on boxing day last year fairground in ancoats area of manchester, @ age of ten. ian brady, arrested last week murder of 17-year-old man in nearby hattersley, suspected of murdering lesley, 23-year-old girlfriend myra hindley, on 11 october charged murder of edward evans. police suspect other missing people manchester area, including 12-year-old john kilbride (who last seen alive 3 years ago) buried there; reports state many eleven murder victims may have been buried in area.
