the highest summit on ridge of ruhn hills, @ 176.8 m above nhn, named ruhner berg ( ruhn hill ), second-highest hill in state of mecklenburg-vorpommern , rises above surrounding area. summit accessible via footpath.

next official survey stone on highest point there trig point first triangulation survey in mecklenburg, carried out friedrich paschen. called ff rock (ff-stein) geodesists. name of rock comes frederick francis ii, gave order grand duchy of mecklenburg state survey (großherzoglich mecklenburgische landvermessung) took place 1853 1860.


cyrillic letters have been subsequently inscribed on rock, example, on western face carved letters ГИК , year 1945г .


observation tower

in june 1907 marnitz veterans , military society (krieger- und militärverein marnitz) proposed erection of moltke tower. competition 1 did not take place until 1913 however. project shelved in 1916 due lack of materiel , start of first world war; , donations collected given charity surviving dependents of killed in war. 20 years later similar project begun in earnest. in 1933 observation tower built on ruhner berg. wooden tower replaced in 2000-01 32 metre high brick tower. observation deck there view of wooded countryside of ruhn hills, , vista stretches far mecklenburg lake district, prignitz lowlands , river elbe. tower funded eu donations, donations firms in region , private individuals surrounding parishes, coats of arms displayed on metal shields inside tower. in addition touristic function, tower used mobile telephone mast.

since 1992 there has been telecommunication tower on southwest slopes of ruhner berg. 91 metres high, made of reinforced concrete , owned deutsche funkturm. (location: 53°17′39″n 11°54′4″e / 53.29417°n 11.90111°e / 53.29417; 11.90111).
