Olfactory System Sensory cue
the process of smelling begins when chemical molecules enter nose , reach olfactory mucosa, dime-sized region located in nasal cavity contains olfactory receptor neurons. there 350 types of olfactory receptors, each sensitive narrow range of odorants. these neurons send signals glomeruli within olfactory bulb. each glomerulus collects information specific olfactory receptor neuron. olfactory signal conducted piriform cortex , amygdala, , orbitalfrontal cortex, higher level processing of odor occurs.
