the tirpitz bunker started construction in 1944, , build part of defense around city of esbjerg. following surrender of german forces, construction halted, , bunker therefore never completed. bunker designed house 2 turrets 2 38 cm sk c/34 naval guns each. after war, bunker abandoned , later turned small museum.


in 2012, decided expand , redesign museum, bjarke ingels group being chosen designer new museum. new museum features open spaces , build dunes.


on 29 june 2017, opening ceremony held, crown prince , minister of culture attending.
