the young shehadie embraced sydney s sporting lifestyle , joined coogee surf club many of surfers avid rugby players, keith , colin windon among them. joined randwick rugby club , first picked replacement in first grade when still aged fifteen. made first representative appearance new south wales against combined services side @ age sixteen. in 1947 appeared in new south wales xv against new zealand , made debut australia in final test against same touring blacks.


he selected on 1947–48 wallaby tour, fourth youngest of 30-man squad. dislocated shoulder in fourth tour match against cardiff recovered make 24 tour appearances including final 2 tests against england , france. finished tour in wallabies side met barbarians in inaugural match against international touring team.


shehadie made representative appearances against new zealand māori in 1949 , year toured new zealand in trevor allan s team first time in history returned victorious bledisloe cup. made further representative showings against british , irish lions in 1950, blacks in 1951 , fiji in 1952.


he made second tour of new zealand in 1952 , on 1953 wallaby tour of south africa honoured australian captaincy in 8 tour matches , in 1 test. continued represent @ highest level 1954 1956 , in 1957 made history first wallaby repeat tour of british isles , europe. while played in 24 matches of trip including 2 tests, tour disappointment wallabies losing 5 tests. shehadie signally honoured when became first tourist asked play barbarians in final tour match against own team.


all up, shehadie made 175 appearances randwick in 16-year club career. represented australia on 114 occasions – first player reach century mark. played 30 tests – record @ time – 3 of them captain.
