career
early years

davidson grew in dunblane , attended dunblane high school 1988-1994 captained school football team. impressive performances school team led being scouted , watched. davidson played basketball, golf, tennis , athletics @ dunblane. part of tennis team won scottish schools championship coached under judy murray , represented scotland in golf.


club career

he scouted , subsequently signed st johnstone. impressive performances perth club attracted interest premiership clubs, resulting in move blackburn rovers in february 1998 £1.75m, st johnstone club record. spent 2 years @ ewood park, making 66 league appearances , scoring once against west ham united.


davidson joined leicester city in july 2000, fee of £2.75m, , remained foxes 4 years, making on 100 appearances. signed preston north end in 2004 on free transfer , later appointed club captain. time @ deepdale dominated recurring injury problems, still managed make on 160 appearances preston.


on 26 may 2011, davidson rejoined first professional club st johnstone on one-year deal on free transfer after being released preston north end earlier in year. made debut on 23 july against aberdeen. scored first goal st johnstone in 3-1 win on dunfermline on 25 february 2012. st johnstone chairman steve brown had indicated club not offering davidson new contract due age, davidson s form forcing him rethink. davidson extended contract st johnstone season in march 2012.


davidson appointed assistant manager of st johnstone in june 2013, while retaining registration player. did not make playing appearances in 2013–14 season, during st johnstone won 2013–14 scottish cup. davidson temporarily took charge of team in march 2014, while manager tommy wright in hospital having gall bladder operation.


international career

davidson won total of 26 caps scotland between 1998 , 2002. after 6 years out of national team, included in george burley s squad face northern ireland in august 2008, did not play. davidson s international career resurrected when started 2010 world cup qualifying match against norway win 22nd cap.
