the ichthyosauromorpha extinct clade of marine reptiles consisting of ichthyosauriformes , hupehsuchia, living during mesozoic.

the node clade ichthyosauromorpha first defined ryosuke motani in 2014 group consisting of last common ancestor of ichthyosaurus communis , hupehsuchus nanchangensis; , descendants. synapomorphies, unique derived traits, include: presence of anterior flange on humerus , radius; lower end of ulna being wide or wider upper end; forelimb being long or longer hindlimb; hand having @ least 3 quarters of length of upper arm , lower arm combined; fibula extending behind level of thighbone; , transverse process of vertebral neural arch being reduced or absent.


the ichthyosauromorpha originated in china during upper lower triassic period, approximately 248 million years ago. 1 branch consisted of hupehsuchia; other of ichthyosauriformes, of cartorhynchus basal member. other ichthyosauriforms ichthyopterygia, containing ichthyosauria , allies. last ichthyosaurs went extinct in middle cretaceous.
