in 1865, travelled on own once again angola. time, married , wife accompanied him. stayed on own in region of benguela, establishing laboratory inside ruins of church, , exploring , collecting animals, until, in 1867, portuguese government hired him, overtly naturalist. probable anchieta recruited secret agent , informer in caconda region of angola, 1 of extreme points of territory. stayed there, researching, exploring , sending many specimens , letters scientific correspondents in lisbon. helped medically in local hospital , appreciated population dedicated , humane care-giving person.


little known in manner of documentation period of anchieta s life, because of museum specimens have disappeared, many letters bocage, in catastrophic fire in museum, in 1978.


achieta died while returning zoological expedition caconda, in 1897, @ 66 years of age, of chronic consequences of malaria, , wife caught, , had severely mined health many years.


in all, according bocage, anchieta s zoological output prolific. responsible identifying 25 new species of mammals, 46 birds, , 46 amphibians , reptiles. didn t care writing scientific papers, though, left correspondents in lisbon.
