the original company of ludwig moser & söhne, founded in 1857 ludwig moser in karlovy vary, glass workshop devoted polishing , engraving blank glass pieces; later did company begin designing , making own art glass products. engraving blanks, loetz, meyr s neffe , harrachov performed workshop in years. @ vienna international exhibition of 1873 awarded medal merit; same year appointed exclusive supplier of glass emperor franz joseph i. win numerous other awards in coming years, including medals @ world exhibitions in paris in 1879, 1889 , 1900, , world exhibition in chicago in 1893. ludwig took on glass factory in meierhofen bei karlsbad in 1893 create full service glassworks employing 400 people under name of karlsbaderglasindustrie gesellschaft ludwig moser & söhne sons gustav , rudolf worked.


in 1904 moser received warrant supply imperial court of emperor of austria , 4 years later became supplier edward vii. in 1915 company exhibited @ panama-pacific international exposition , again awarded medal, louis comfort tiffany , charles tuthill thought deserved due outstanding quality of hot glass applied decorations on coloured bohemian glass. art nouveau glass pieces produced moser surface decoration natural themes , simple cameo glass. used eckentiefgravur technique employing sharp angular body cut in form of intaglio flowers.


following death of father in 1916, leo moser took on direction , company expanded resulting in recognition grand prize award @ paris international exhibition of decorative art in 1925. exhibited in london, belgium, italy , vienna. depression of 1930s exacted toll, reducing staff 240, leo resigned company in 1932. later, having sold company shares in company in 1938, fled county after areas of czechoslovakia annexed. city of karlovy vary occupied nazi germany in 1938 after munich agreement , family fled country during anti-semitic period. because of international reputation, company able retain independence during communist era while rest of czech glass industry nationalised in 1948.


the art nouveau designs of heavily engraved lilies , fipop series c1914 of notable pieces. several cheaper lower quality derivatives of fipop designs produced other companies , between 1927 , 1933 2 american glassmakers made copies calling them woodland , deerwood. moser 1 of few czechoslovakian glassmakers sign pieces.
