on 30 october 2010 after 3 days of autonomous flight following launch, progress m-08m docked pirs docking compartment module nadir port of space station. successful linkup came @ 16:36 utc while flying 220 miles on western kazakhstan. in preparation docking on 20 october, engines of progress m-07m spacecraft fired 228.7 seconds. reboost placed space station @ proper altitude receive progress m-08m. late dam performed on 26 october changed station s orientation in space , planned docking had brought forward couple of minutes.


the progress m-08m spacecraft, flying on autopilot, performed flawless rendezvous space station. after arriving in vicinity of space station, progress m-08m began flyaround maneuver lined docking port , executed roll maneuver orient solar wings surrounding structures around pirs module. brief stationkeeping hold 650 feet between spacecraft , space station allowed russian flight controllers assess systems before giving approval commence final approach.


during stationkeeping, flight controllers in moscow instructed cosmonaut alexander kaleri activate toru manual docking equipment , take on piloting tasks progress autonomous kurs system. switch manual mode decided @ range of 194 m. kaleri worked inside space station s zvezda module fly progress m-08m remotely using television views , pair of joysticks , guided successful docking. range rate @ time of contact, based on mission control center-moscow calculations 0.067 m/s.


hooks , latches engaged few minutes later firmly secure progress m-08m space station. expedition 25 crew opened hatches , entered progress later on next day.
