programming student-run , extremely diverse, including heavy metal world, hip-hop blues, classical , jazz industrial , noise, , diverse community programming (church of subgenius). wrek slogans include music don t hear on radio , quality diverse radio.

regular rotation programming blocks take daytime broadcasts. times focus on themes: mornings play jazz , classics while afternoons transmit rrr (rock, rhythm , roll) , nights air atmospherics , notorious overnight alternatives. these time slots staffed various wrek student staff , feature wide selection of music, contests, , psas. wrek website maintains two-week archive of regular rotation shifts, available 128kbit/s , 24kbit/s downloads.

specialty shows feature shifts dedicated specific genre. air on 50 hours week, in evenings. range ramblin wreck report, georgia tech sports talk show hosted students destroy music, clatter-improv pink noise freakouts. other weekly shows include mobius, experimental electronic show featuring music , in-studio performances of new , established artists run electronic gamut; electric boogaloo, funksperience; live@wrek, live music show broadcasting local , touring artists , bands; , slow riot, technical, abstract math rock , atmospheric, swirling post-rock.

wrek broadcasts play-by-play coverage of georgia tech intercollegiate athletics, including baseball, women s basketball, , volleyball. in fall 2004, station agreed partner isp sports simulcast network coverage of selected georgia tech football , men s basketball games augment wqxi s diminished nighttime coverage in metro atlanta. partnership ended following 2007–08 season.


in december 2002, wrek broadcast entire 50-disc merzbox japanese experimental music artist merzbow. article in creative loafing described merzbow marathon may obscure , counterintuitive move in history of radio.


continuing tradition of unorthodox radio broadcasts, wrek chose air long-running heavy metal show wrekage entire 24-hour broadcast day on june 6, 2006 (6/6/6). heavy metal played in chronological order midnight midnight. nod mystic number 666 (number), iron maiden s number of beast aired @ 6:06 a.m. , p.m.


in fall 2007, critics of creative loafing declared wrek best overall radio station in atlanta metropolitan area. article describing reasoning declared wrek strange in way. station s format noncommercial , nonconforming. few stations in city can compete wrek s eclectic playlist .
