grupo cisneros founded in 1929 in venezuela diego cisneros , elder brother antonio josé cisneros small material transport business called d. cisneros & cia. brothers obtained license operate bus route , transformed dump truck business bus business. in time, cisneros brothers created bus line made of 400 buses, sold in 1939.

in 1992, part of consortium of american businessman jerry perenchio, mexican entrepreneur emilio azcárraga milmo, , grupo cisneros bought univision $500 million. grupo cisneros held 25% stake in univision , 12.5% stake in univision station group. consortium ended sellling univision $13.7 billion in 2007.

in 1995, grupo cisneros partnered hughes electronics corporation provide all-digital direct-to-home satellite television service throughout latin america.

in august 2013, gustavo cisneros appointed daughter adriana cisneros de griffin new chief executive officer of grupo cisneros. adriana had spent 5 years working vice president of strategy.
