aberfoyle single-storeyed chamferboard residence corrugated iron hipped roof projecting gables, bullnosed verandah south, southeast , southwest, , timber stumps. building located on level corner site fronting wood street south , albion street (the cunningham highway) west.


the entry, facing wood street south, symmetrical in elevation , composed of central timber stair leading verandah, surmounted gable roof above, , flanked on either side projecting five-sided corner bays on southwest , southeast. gables project above corner bays, verandahs encircling them in plan. western elevation has central projecting gable, verandah terminated, kitchen wing projecting north. rear of building has enclosed verandahs, , large single-storeyed addition on northeast.


the roof has timber eave brackets , central ventilator, , projecting gables have timber finials , diagonal boarding on pressed sheeting. verandahs have timber posts timber capitals, timber handrails , cast iron balustrades projecting bay sections , entry, , cast iron brackets. verandahs have unusual lattice screens consist of scalloped timber lattice gives star-like pattern. brick chimney stack located mid-way above internal wall on western side of building, , rear kitchen wing shows evidence of alterations windows , addition northern end. western elevation has decorative window hoods consisting of cast iron brackets corrugated iron hood , timber sides, , central window hood has gable finial.


the building has sash windows, french doors patterned glass panels , fanlights opening onto verandahs, , decorative leadlight sash windows projecting southwest , southeast corner bays. these windows have leadlight, in geometric pattern, bottom panel only. main entry door assembly consists of central door solid bottom panel , leadlight upper panels, , leadlight panels fanlight , sidelights featuring floral design.


internally, aberfoyle has 6 rooms opening off central corridor kitchen wing @ rear. front 2 guest rooms have curtained off projecting corner bays leadlight windows , cedar frames, southwest bay containing photographic image of picturesque railway line in bush location (possibly on cairns- kuranda or spring bluff rail line) set within glass panel in centre of leadlight window. southeast bay has textured glass panel in place of similar image located there.


aberfoyle has ornate pressed metal ceilings , cornices, woodgraining internal doors fretwork panels above, , stencilled friezes, portion of original frieze surviving intact in entry foyer. internal walls lined vertically jointed boards, , changes involving doorways , partition walls evident in fabric. entry foyer has arched timber opening narrower hall beyond, , 2 middle bedrooms have linoleum floor coverings.


the living/dining room has non-original timber fireplace surround, , chimney has been sealed. timber door textured glass upper panels provides access adjacent kitchen, not in original position. northeast bedroom retains upper portion of partition wall separated former adjacent bathroom contained sunken bath. constructed bathroom located adjacent in northeast corner of enclosed verandah.


a timber door coloured glass upper panels, fanlight , sidelights, separates hall enclosed rear verandah. rear kitchen wing has undergone several changes, including kitchen being refitted, retains upper portion of partition wall separated maids room. addition on northern end contains study working fireplace, , internal bathroom has been constructed within inside corner of enclosed rear verandah.


a large single-storeyed addition has been constructed on northeast, , contains living spaces , garage. deck has been constructed on northwest, , inground swimming pool located on northeast.


the grounds include 3 large camphor laurel trees along albion street frontage, , terracotta tiled paths lead front gate entrance off wood street, , side path albion street verandah near living/dining room. paths have marseilles tiles edgings in cabled design, referred rope or barley-twist design, , entrance path has been reconstructed in places tiles side path.
