fish abundant in egypt, egypt located on both mediterranean , red seas, along river nile. fishing typically practiced on river nile, either nets boat, using dragnets shore or using bow nets in narrow banks of river. on other hand, fishing practiced sport pleasure. spear fishing , angle fishing 2 types of fishing sport required lot of patience , skill.

similar modern fishing, angle fishing common fishing technique, requires hook, however, no fishing rods used @ time, instead, thick hand lines. angling practiced among commoners , not upper class egyptians. unlike spear fishing, angling not practiced sport important means of obtaining food. picture evidence available not show upper-class people practicing angling. however, pictures display commoners using angling fish boat, masters watching. evidence of first fishing rod appears in middle kingdom period, in tomb of beni hasan. later on in tombs of 18th , 19th dynasty officials, see evidence of upper class egyptians practicing fishing angling wives, indicates time, fishing angling had become upper class recreational sport.
