the red raiders softball program began in 1981 program dropped after 5 seasons. when texas tech joined big 12 conference charter member, program resurrected in time inaugural 1996 season. shanon hays, first lubbock christian university head softball coach, turned red raider softball team around 15–42 season under interim head coach amy suiter 80–34 in first 2 seasons. hays led red raiders 3 ncaa regional appearances during 5 seasons @ helm. adrian gregory named seventh head coach in texas tech history in june 2014.
