fussball klub straßburg founded on 19 may 1890 , played in vsfv (verband süddeutscher fussballvereine or federation of south german football teams). merger fc celeritas straßburg on 24 december 1898 led team being renamed fussball verein straßburg. club won league title in 1899 4:3 victory on karlsruher fv. 2 teams played re-match in following year s final, result has been lost history. same year fv became 1 of founding members of german football association (deutscher fussball bund or german football association) @ leipzig. in 1902 club s second team captured vsfv second division title. 1909 1912, club played in tier-one südkreis-liga.


the team s performance fell off on next decade, 1917 straßburg had resurfaced in league playoff rounds, losing 1917 final stuttgarter kickers , going out in semi-finals in 1918. after world war strasbourg ceded france part of territory of alsace-lorraine , fv straßburg removed german football scene in 1920 play in french leagues, first strasbourger fv, , following union same year strasbourger fc donar (established 22 november 1899), association sportive de strasbourg.


during interwar period strasbourg played in top flight regional division d honneur alsace , regularly delivered top-three finishes there. participated in league championship in 1926, 1927, , 1928, coming away winners in 1926. after re-organization of french football leagues in 1932 strasbourg played in lower divisions.

the region conquered , held briefly germany during world war ii , fv straßburg 1 of several former german sides returned play in country s football competition. once again playing sportverein straßburg 1890 club made single season appearance in top flight gauliga elsaß in 1940-41. won promotion weakened gauliga in 1944 division collapsed conflict overtook area.


the club resumed play association sportive de strasbourg in late 1944 , enjoyed success french amateur side through 60s. latest honours, quarter century old, fourth division national title , coupe d alsace win in 80s.
