neighborhood residents organized, lobbied , protested, demanding neighborhood incorporated greater rome. comitato dei quartieri della magliana played critical role in organizing residents. during 1970s, published community newsletter.


another area of activisim in magliana concerned evictions. many of magliana’s residents unprivileged during 1970s. landlords demand unmanageable rents residents, though apartments not connected water , telephone lines. residents organized halt evictions developing strong networks, informing each other of pending evictions, , on day of intended evictions, telephone each other when police entered neighborhoods , residents gather in streets , physically prevent police entering neighborhood. result of activism, fewer evictions occurred in magliana on time.


though amount of activist activity in magliana has decreased since 1970s, there still significant amount of community organizing. there squatter settlements in magliana house people whatever reason not able obtain housing. these run communist , socialist organizations.


on more organized end of spectrum, comitato di quartiere still holds activities. teach italian language class immigrants 2 days week.
