the statue in hilo, hawaii


another kamahameha statue resides on island of hawaiʻi (known locally big island). stands near downtown hilo @ north end of wailoa river state recreation area, enjoys king s view of hilo bay. 14-foot (4.3 m) statue sculpted r. sandrin @ fracaro foundry in vicenza, italy in 1963 not erected on site , dedicated until june 1997.


the statue commissioned $125,000 princeville corporation resort in kauai. however, people of kauai did not want statue erected there, kauai never conquered king kamehameha i. hilo, however, 1 of political centers of king kamehameha i. consequently, princeville corporation donated statue big island of hawaii via kamehameha schools alumni association, east hawaii chapter.
