local government

long beach township has been governed under walsh act form of new jersey municipal government, three-member township committee, since 1936. commissioners elected serve four-year terms on concurrent basis in nonpartisan elections, current commissioner s terms of office ending on december 31, 2016. board of commissioners passed ordinance in february 2011 shifting nonpartisan elections may november, beginning of november 2012 election.


as of 2016, members of long beach township board of commissioners mayor joseph h. mancini (commissioner of public affairs , public safety), ralph h. bayard (commissioner of public works, parks , public property) , dr. joseph p. lattanzi (commissioner of revenue , finance), serving terms of office end december 31, 2016.


on august 12, 2009, commissioner dianne gove selected republican county committee members fill remainder of term of daniel van pelt in general assembly representing 9th legislative district after van pelt had resigned after being arrested on corruption charges.

as of march 23, 2011, there total of 2,955 registered voters in long beach township, of 544 (18.4%) registered democrats, 1,215 (41.1%) registered republicans , 1,195 (40.4%) registered unaffiliated. there 1 voter registered party. among township s 2010 census population, 96.9% (vs. 63.2% in ocean county) registered vote, including 107.5% of ages 18 , on (vs. 82.6% countywide).
