rebuilding arena on site of spectrum in philadelphia rejected in favor of more profitable xfinity live! project , new 180-room renaissance marriott hotel. competition build new arena phantoms in 2008 between allentown , camden, new jersey. while camden closer, allentown had more elaborate proposal helped secure allentown s bid team.


plans build ppl center @ corner of 7th , hamilton streets in downtown allentown announced in late 2009. of 2009 , 2010, focus of project on securing funding. project took major leap forward in 2011, when several properties purchased city clear way project begin. end of january 2012, of properties had been purchased final demolition of buildings occurring in february 2012.
