in 1989, concerned individuals realised flow through dartford had ceased. river darent later recognised officially lowest flowing river in country. wildlife decimated reason became apparent problem addressed. increasing quantities of water being diverted rivers authority supply growing greeds of adjacent towns , london boroughs. since 1989, work has been [claimed have been] carried out rectify situation, including shutting down of number of boreholes environment agency. documented in dartford library environment agency documents lodged there.


a sculpture unveiled in 2004 celebrate renewed life of river, depicting wildlife has been saved.
