in october 2003, lexus premiered lf-s (lexus future sedan), concept car presaged design characteristics of upcoming gs. design features on lf-s concept included slingshot cabin, sleek profile, , fastback rear deck lid, translated production gs, while windshield cleansing system, glass roof, , side cameras not.

the third generation gs introductory lexus model marque s new l-finesse design philosophy. characterized swooping lines, fastback profile, , more muscular styling, gs indicated future direction of lexus lineup. production gs featured slingshot cabin, first previewed on earlier lexus lf-s concept. production gs retained quad headlamp design second generation model , previous lexus sc while adding led tailamps, , one-piece bumpers create more uniform appearance. drag coefficient on third generation gs design reached 0.27 cd.

the gs interior available ash leather , black bird s eye maple wood trim, cashmere leather , brown bird s-eye maple trim, or black leather , walnut trim. major standard features included water repellent front door glass, acoustic windshield, solar energy absorbing glass, electrochromic auto-dimming side mirrors puddle lamps, electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror, 10-way driver , front passenger power , heated seats three-position lexus memory system, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, , power trunk closer. gs sedans first feature latest generation of lexus smartaccess keyless system–-adding push-button start first time standard.

other unique features included driver-side hidden drop-down panel infrequently used controls, standard 7-inch touchscreen display in center console, , led lighting in cabin. unique lexus gs series three-pod instrument cluster machined aluminum facings , electrochromic feature adjusts amount of reflected sunlight reduce glare. optional features included power moonroof, ventilated front seats perforated leather, power rear sunshade, rain-sensing wipers, discrete 5.1 surround sound 14-speaker 330 watt mark levinson premium sound system, xm-satellite radio , dvd-based navigation backup camera , bluetooth technology.
