during world war i, village scene of battle of doberdò. since many slovene soldiers fought in battle soldiers of austro-hungarian army. popular war song doberdob verse doberdob, slovenskih fantov grob ( doberdò, grave of slovene lads ), made name of village known across slovene lands. in 1940, slovene writer prežihov voranc chose name of village title 1 of best-known novels, doberdob (subtitled: war novel of slovene people ). novel, doberdò became central symbolic place of slovene victims in world war i.


doberdò symbolic place hungarians, since many of them died in battle fighting in austro-hungarian army. in hungary, there popular war song name doberdó, reminiscent of battle. in may 2009, chapel commemorating hungarian victims of battles of isonzo inaugurated in hamlet of visintini (slovene: vižintini) trilingual, italian-hungarian-slovene inscription.
