1964, band inaugurated first football band day @ vpi on october 10.
1966, highty tighties last virginia tech students live in lane hall in fall quarter of 1966. lane hall, named after general james h. lane when first opened in 1888, still stands used faculty offices. highty-tighties took residence in brodie hall when classes resumed in 1967.

1975, highty-tighty alumni association formed. purpose of alumni association support highty-tighties , sustain growth , development. alumni concerned decreasing size of band , corps , established scholarships highty-tighties assist in recruiting , retention. charles o. cornelison first highty-tighty alumni association president. alumni formed alumni band began marching highty-tighties during homecoming parade , during pre-game , halftime show. christopher bise, ht 72, has been alumni band drum major since 1975.
during world war ii, women radford university (temporarily part of vpi) reportedly allowed march highty-tighties. in 1975, first females integrated band highty-tighties. stephanie hahn 1st of 8 women march highty-tighties in 1975. these women lived in l company, female company. according virginia tech history, marilyn helmeyer first woman officially in band company in 1977. lori keck (lasc 1992) become first female drum major of highty tighties in 1992.
1976, highty-tighties won first place @ warsaw bicentennial parade, representing army rotc unit in district.
1975, highty tighties won first place @ apple blossom parade in winchester, virginia.
1977, dr. james r. sochinski took on director of band. in 1974, dr. sochinski went on form civilian band, marching virginians @ virginia tech.
1977, band performed in halftime show of washington redskins-philadelphia eagles football game.
1977, band marched 1 of 8 honor bands @ macy s thanksgiving day parade in new york city.
spring of 1977, band awarded beverly s. parrish gold cord award first time. gold cord awarded outstanding virginia tech corps of cadets unit.
