fictional character biography
early life

neal shaara comes affluent family in kolkata, father city s chief of police. family owned large tea estate, lived.


he popular among girls because of looks. when journalist brother sanjit disappears, neal decides investigate, against parents wishes. neal shadowed father s best detective karima shapandar, , after karima saves him group of thugs, 2 began romantic relationship while search neal s missing brother.


karima turned prime sentinel

they captured villain bastion, plans turn them prime sentinels has done sanjit. however, shock of transformation causes latent mutant powers manifest, power generate , control solar plasma , heat.


sanjit able disable other sentinels, fatally wounded in attempt. karima, able temporarily rebel against programming, tells neal leave her, own transformation process commences, result in killing him when transformation complete.


joining x-men

neal lost, alone , strange powers neither comprehends or wants. neal contacts goes see family friend moira mactaggert on muir island, , meets x-men, although not know when first meets them. later, x-men revealed themselves, when used powers stop cable when techno-organic virus runs out of control. neal frightened, convinced join team. chooses codename thunderbird, becoming third bearer of name after proudstar brothers. later adopted more armored yellow , red uniform wire mesh padding.


psylocke

while x-men, thunderbird struggles fear of killing or hurting plasma. in addition, falls in love x-man psylocke, though in relationship archangel. thunderbird , psylocke engage in flirtatious behavior in front of archangel, makes displeasure felt thunderbird. couple breaks up, , psylocke pursues romantic relationship thunderbird.


thunderbird becomes friends colossus, him, has lost brother. introduces him game of cricket. during 1 of conversations, says though happy psylocke, still retains feelings karima, prime sentinel.


thunderbird s lack of control on powers caused problems during combat. refrains using them on opponents due fear of killing them. archangel, bears animus toward him because of breakup betsy, mocks him , questions place in x-men.


x-treme x-men

a short while, thunderbird , 5 other x-men formed splinter group of x-men dubbed x-treme x-men, cutting ties rest of team while searching destiny s diaries. trains psylocke gain better control of powers, , learns use small amount of plasma blind or singe opponents. psylocke dies @ hands of vargas, leaving behind grief-stricken thunderbird.


for time seen working x-man future, lucas bishop, mutant energy-related powers, in attempt overcome fears , gain greater control on powers. comes think of bishop mentor. after psylocke s death, begins questioning purpose of life. bishops tells him while none of x-men mentioned in history books of time, neal is, revelation motivates neal.


lifeguard

some time after, neal started relationship heather cameron, known lifeguard. , brother davis (who become slipstream) joined offshoot group of x-men. after inter-dimensional invasion @ madripoor villain khan, thunderbird , lifeguard left search brother slipstream, left team.


x-corporation

neal , heather later seen member of x-corporation in singapore, although slipstream seen. short-lived there synchronized attack on several of x-corporation offices after catastrophic events of m-day, leading cyclops call disbanding of offices. whether aborted search slipstream, or did find him, not yet known.


current status

in decimation storyline, seen in 198 files, 1 of few mutants retain powers after events of m-day.
