as young , ambitious party leader, after studying in zagreb returned birthplace become full-time politician. became deputy bugojno, deputy west bosnian district, , in 1965 secretary of bosnian communist party s central committee - before being elected president year later.


mikulić , team proceeded build system of social , national equality on zavnobih model, way of full emancipation of bosniak nation , reintegration of bosnian croats political system. meanwhile, western herzegovina enjoyed economic regeneration during mikulić s rule

branko mikulić nominated yugoslav presidency successor milka planinc in january 1986. in ljubljana, slovenian sociologist tomaž mastnak criticized mikulić s nomination on radio. government subsequently laid charges against mastnak. on 15 may 1986 mikulić appointed president of federal executive council of yugoslavia.


in march 1987, mikulić publicly rebuked economic policy striking workers refused serve him while in kranjska gora ski-jump competition. after outbreak of 70 strikes nationally in two-week period (with strikes being illegal in yugoslavia), mikulić threatened mobilize army restore order in may 1987. mikulić s government devalued dinar 25% on 17 november 1987. mikulić reached standby agreement international monetary fund in 1988. sr croatia , sr slovenia attempted launch no-confidence motion against mikulić in may 1988, proved unsuccessful. in june 1988, several thousand people protested in front of federal assembly calling mikulić s resignation. after no-confidence vote in federal assembly, mikulić resigned post on 30 december 1988 , returned sarajevo. this, mikulić s government became first , resign in history of communist yugoslavia. mikulić left office yugoslavia in 21 billion usd of debt western countries. replaced ante marković on 16 march 1989.


he received last rites shortly before death. mikulić died quietly in april 1994 during siege of sarajevo. buried in catholic cemetery sv. josip in sarajevo.
