the olympian shared same chassis , running gear leyland titan integral double deck bus ordered en masse london transport. @ time there demand non-integral vehicles, operators wishing have chassis bodied other manufacturers. leyland created b45 project, named olympian, in 1979. in many ways update of popular bristol vrt (bristol commercial vehicles merged leyland in 1965), many vr customers choosing olympians. later olympian replaced leyland atlantean.


the olympian unveiled @ 1980 commercial motor show. available in 2 lengths, 9.56m , 10.25m. engines either leyland tl11 unit (an 11.1-litre development of leyland o.680), or gardner 6lxb or 6lxct. later olympians had cummins l10 engines; 1 had 5lxct.


for export market three-axle version built lengths of 10.4m, 11.32m , 11.95m. popular operators such kowloon motor bus. in 1988, leyland developed air-conditioned version of olympian, air conditioner driven main engine instead of separate engine.


between 1979 , 1981, 9 demonstrators built, before first production olympian entered service ribble motor services in august 1981.


the olympian manufactured @ former bristol factory in brislington first thousand completed here. in 1983, production transferred leyland s farington , workington plants. last completed singapore bus service in march 1994.
