daikin entered north american air conditioning market in 2004.
in 2006, daikin industries acquired mcquay international, minneapolis, mn based global corporation designs, manufacturers , sells commercial, industrial , institutional heating, ventilation , air conditioning (hvac) products, , in november of same year, purchased oyl industries. these acquisitions made daikin industries, major global hvac manufacturer, rivaling carrier corporation in total number of products produced, total dollar volume , worldwide territory coverage. in 2008, mcquay international re-branded daikin-mcquay daikin began implementing many of technologies (including daikin inverter compressor) , manufacturing processes mcquay equipment , factories. however, in november 2013, daikin-mcquay group again re-branded daikin applied, ending 80 years of business mcquay name.
in 2008 daikin purchased 75% share of world machinery supply based in roscoe, illinois. using technology air conditioning division. facing global demands on co2 reductions , serious energy issues facing world, product aims cut energy consumption in manufacturing sector. of 2009, daikin airconditioning philippines established. of april 2014, daikin hydraulics marketed line of piston pumps, vane pumps, manual pumps, solenoid valves, , flow , control valves claiming pump technology 50–70 percent more energy efficient conventional technology.
in august 2012 daikin agreed acquire goodman global san francisco-based private equity firm hellman & friedman $3.7 billion, after first planning buy goodman previous year. in january 2011, daikin had announced plans buy goodman global @ approximately $4 billion valuation, however, plans put off following 2011 tōhoku earthquake , tsunami acquisition expected expand daikin s presence in united states , in duct-type , split-system air-conditioners, , expected make daikin world s largest maker of heating, ventilation , air-conditioning systems.
daikin opened first american air-conditioner manufacturing facility—employing 5000 people in 4,525,000 square feet (420,400 m) facility in cypress, texas—in 2013.
